About me!
Hi, I’m Winston Zeng. I run BenchJournal, where I publish the raw data from the SEO and marketing tools I actually use on live websites — including the tests that fail.
Who I am and what I’m doing now
I run two websites. The first is winterpvc.com, a B2B export site selling soft PVC film to packaging converters, printers and importers. The second is BenchJournal, this site, which is a public record of the SEO tests I run on winterpvc.com.
I did not start these tests because I enjoy reading case studies. I started them because I needed to know whether the tools I was paying for were actually changing anything on a real B2B site. Theory was not helping me. Measured results were.
Background: where I started from
I did not come into this with an agency background, an SEO certification or a list of consulting clients. I started building and optimizing winterpvc.com in 2026 with no prior SEO experience and learned it by publishing, measuring and correcting. What I have instead of credentials is the thing you can verify yourself: live sites, Google Search Console data and dated screenshots.
Everything published here traces back to a specific page, a specific date range and a specific number in Search Console. If I cannot show the data, I do not claim the result.
What I test and how I test it
I currently test two categories of tools and tactics:
- On-page SEO tools. The main one so far is Surfer SEO, which I used to rewrite content on winterpvc.com. I tracked what the tool recommended, what I could actually apply, and what happened to rankings and impressions afterwards.
- AI search visibility. I monitor whether pages from winterpvc.com appear in Google’s AI results, and I log those impressions separately from normal search impressions so the two are never mixed together.
Every test follows the same structure. I record the test conditions first: page URL, page type, the date range, and the exact metric being watched. I then collect raw data daily or weekly, including the days when nothing moved. The write-up always covers three things — what changed, what did not change, and what I plan to test next. Documenting what did not change matters more than documenting the win, because that is where most tool claims fall apart.
Limitations you should know before you rely on anything here: my sample is one B2B site and a small number of pages, so every result is a single case rather than a general rule. Traffic is low enough that a handful of impressions can move a percentage a long way. If you are deciding whether to buy a tool, treat my numbers as context, not as a guarantee.
Where the data is (Evidence)
The tests I would point you to first:
- 3 months after optimizing with Surfer SEO — what moved on my B2B page over a full quarter, and what stayed flat.
- Surfer SEO review on a real B2B PVC page — the full walkthrough of what the tool gave me, what I rejected, and the before/after score.
- What 22 Google AI search impressions meant for a small B2B page — how I found them in Search Console and why only one page was affected.
In each article the numbers come from Google Search Console screenshots taken on stated dates, plus before-and-after captures of the pages themselves. Nothing is rounded up, and no result is included without a date attached.
As of September 2026, winterpvc.com has gone from zero organic presence to 3,600+ impressions and 5 real customer inquiries from organic search. Those are small numbers for a large site, and that is the point: BenchJournal logs them at this stage, before they look impressive, so the process is documented as it happens instead of summarized after the fact.
Contact and feedback
If you spot an error in a test, disagree with a conclusion, or want the raw screenshot behind a number, email me at wenzhaoceng643@gmail.com. I read every message, and I will correct a page when the data shows I was wrong.
You can also follow the process on X (@WinstonZengg), Facebook and YouTube, where I walk through the setup and the results in more detail. If you are building something on your own too, I would like to hear about it.
